Extra Dostoyevsky Readings

If you enjoyed "The Dream of a Ridiculous Man" (and even if you didn't), you might enjoy some of the other selections in the Signet Dostoyevsky book.  If you like romances, you might find "White Nights" particularly appealing. If you want to know what it's like to be in a Siberian prison camp, you might like the selections from the "House of the Dead."

Read either or both selections, and add your comments here. What would you say to encourage students to read the selection for themselves?

  1. The reading in "The Dream of a Ridiculous Man" was quite interesting, other than the fact that it seemed it was written by a crazy person. It was very cool to look into what was running through his mind during this process and how he was "dreaming." Drowning in thoughts and overthinking late at night occur for him, and it is interesting to read about these thoughts he was having and the different lessons he learned during his experiences with this. - Ricky Berndt

  2. These readings were quite interesting and I enjoyed Dostoyevsky's style of writing as well as how he portrayed the entire story through a man who was "dreaming." I would encourage students to read the selection themselves because it allows a greater understanding of "The Dream of a Ridiculous Man" and I thought it helped clarify some questions that I had from the required readings for class.
